We purchased a house in 2005 with 12000 gal pool. Pump at the time was a 1 HP Hayward, since the original owner spec the pool for a spa and in turn just converted the area to a sitting area, the large pump was not needed. Fast forward to 2009, the 1.5 HP decided it had enough. I purchased a Hayward Super Pump 2 speed (1HP), 3 years later lost the motor replaced with a 3/4HP single speed (going out of town could not wait for the 2 speed replacement), 2 years after that lost another, and this weekend 2 years and 5 days later lost another motor. ( last motor was 3/4 with 1.5S.F by my math that is 1 1/4 HP with a 3/4 impeller. And I'm hoping they changed impeller down to 3/4.

The main drain is inoperative. 2 pool builders basically told me to live with it not working.
From what I am reading 3/4 HP should be fine...........Could I be missing something?
