I’m heading out for 10 days vacation and I don’t have anyone to help me with. Majority of the leaves around my yard has fallen already. Although leaves are not falling at a faster rate now; my pump is scheduled to run 4 hours a day; Freeze protection will be activated up until Tuesday, there will be a good chunk of leaves collected in the skimmer basket every 12 hours or so. Is it OK to leave the skimmer clogged when running the pump or should I cut off the skimmer drain line? Given its freeze until Tuesday, I’m doubtful to change anything at this point as my system been OK last two days of Freeze. Please share your knowledge!

should I cut off the skimmer drain line?
I'd go to 50/50 suction between the skimmers and whatever other suction you have. (Main drains ?). Not only will it skim less, delaying a potential clog, but it will also ensure the pump gets plenty of water from the other source if a clog happens anyway.

Even if the skimmer clogs it likely won't freeze solid. It only takes a little water movent and some amount of water would still get by the leaves.

Thank you, done. Also I read suggestions on other posts, so did some DIY to hang a mesh-like material in front of the skimmer entry. I believe/hope it will keep 75% of leaves in the pool so it can delay skimmer clogging for some more time.
