I have the Taylor k2006 kit. I am really struggling to color match the ph. Taylor says to hold it up to the north sky, but lighting tends to be different depending on weather and were the sun is and their is a big difference in color. I just tested again because I added acid a few hours ago. I can't tell if it is 7.4, 7.6, or 7.8 it all depends on what angle and which part of the north sky I hold it up to. Is there a trick to get a more accurate reading? It doesn't help I tend to see more shades of colors than a lot of people.

To be honest, it really does not matter. As long as it is above 7 and at or below 8, and the TA is above 50 ppm, all is good.

It matters a little in a plaster pool (which neither of you have). It's an easy way to manipulate CSI when needed. A near-white background helps, probably better than the sky.

I use a thumb from either hand to block off above and below the one I want to compare. I find yes/no to be way easier than best of three. If you're stuck between two of them, call it in the middle and be about your way.
