Struggling for a month now with this pool

Don't worry about the stains until your SLAM is done.

Follow the guide to determine what the stain is.

Dry acid is sodium bisulfate/pH down.

If you need help with the stain guide, or stain treatment, I'd make a separate thread in "Everything Else."

Thanks. At this point my husband thinks the dead algae is just always going to be there every day and wants to give up. I don't know why it's still showing up. I see more on the bottom again today. Our FC hasn't gone under 17 in almost a week. We took out and cleaned the ladder multiple times, and the water looks totally clear. Will lowering the chlorine to a regular level not be enough to kill any remaining unseen algae? I kid you not, both of our backs are messed up at this point from the brushing and vacuuming. I'm not sure how much longer we can keep going. 😞

I would not stop.
Have you scrubbed your skimmer?
Have you checked the weir door for algae?
Did you scrub INSIDE the ladder with water/bleach?
Take the ladder out for a couple days and see what happens...There is someplace algae is lurking.

Have you done an OCLT? What were the results? Link-->Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

I hadn't thought of scrubbing the skimmer or skimmer door...I'll do that!
I didn't know there was an "inside" of the ladder 🤯. We'll take it out and examine it.
When I was vacuuming yesterday, I did once in a while walk across a spot that felt a little slick on the bottom, and was thinking that might be algae, although I don't know how that's possible after brushing daily and vacuuming often.
I did do 1 OCLT over the weekend and lost 0 chlorine overnight.
I wonder if there's a robot vacuum under $200 that would pick up the dead algae so we at least don't have to vacuum it as often. It's a lot of time & work to vacuum and then take out the cartridge filter to clean it this often.
Is there a link I can send you funds for a cup of coffee or something to thank you for all of this help? Or would you prefer I make a donation to TFP? You've been so helpful.

I can't comment on the robot...maybe create a new thread on robot selection.

How often are you backwashing/cleaning the filter?

Make a donation to TFP!!!
