Storing pool chemicals

Hi All,

Read a couple of articles on TFP about storing chemicals and wanted to confirm something. I have a 5ft x 5ft shelf underneath my equipment pad (3 ft underneath). The shelf is open from all detections (well ventilated) and is naturally shaded, since the equipment pad is 3 ft above. Will it be ok to store a box of 4 x 1 Gal plastic chlorine bottles and 4 x 1 Gal plastic muriatic acid bottles in the opposite corners of that shelf?

Thank you!

The chlorine should be fine, though if it gets hot it could degrade faster.

I wouldn't store the MA right underneath the equipment. To me that's too much of a risk. The ventilation might mean no issues, or it could be not enough and your expensive equipment could start rusting like crazy. And if the chlorine is near it could cause nasty vapors if the ventilation isn't adequate. I'd keep the MA stored away from equipment, metal, and other chemicals.

Outside Temps are really something to consider as well, heat really really degrades chlorine potency depending on how much and how long you store it. I recently bought quite a bit of chlorine and have been storing it in a shed outside that it gets pretty hot inside but with southern nevada heat over the last month the last 2 gallons I'm down to are basically worthless at this point. That's just been my experience so far, not sure what part of CA your in but I know SoCal Temps are pretty hot in summer.

Such that if they spill they cannot come into contact with each other.

Fumes from the Acid can corrode metals. So they should be in a separate container and located 5+ feet from any metal and not in an enclosed space.
