Hi TFP Community!

I recently had my pool resurfaced with StoneScapes Aqua White Mini Pebble. After the surface was installed, but before the pool was filled, water from my auto-fill valve leaked on the surface creating a puddle, with water running down to the deep end. It left a whitish imprint. My pool contractor told me that it would eventually fade. It has been one month and I don't see much of a difference. He said to give it two more months for the chemicals to take effect. For example, he is just starting the salt chlorination. If that doesn't do it, he said that he would drain the pool and acid wash the entire surface to make it a uniform color.

Has anyone else had this experience? I am interested to hear whether the white stains actually do dissipate over time. Also, will draining and acid washing the surface do any damage to the finish? Of course, the resurfacing was expensive. It is very annoying to spend that much money and not be happy with the result. When I look at the pool, all I can focus is on are those white stains. I can't really enjoy the pool!

I appreciate any information or advice anyone has. Thank you!

Thomas

That type of discoloration does not usually disappear. And it may be very difficult to remove especially if the surface is a typical bumpy pebble finish and not "tabletop" smooth. Normally, if the surface is smooth, then one can sand the stain or discoloration (using sandpaper) and remove it that way. Unfortunately, with a pebble finish, the only way to remove the stain is by performing an acid treatment.

If you decide to allow the contractor to acid wash it, then insist that they go light with the acid and not over do it.
