Steel Sided AGP- Resin Top Cap question

I just got my new 18'x52" AGP up last week - install went great, got her level within 1/4" (thanks laser level) and I didn't have any problems now that it's filled.

I'm wondering if there's a trick to these resin caps (This is a Signature RTL from Pool Factory) and getting them on and looking nice. I put the large piece facing outside on first, then fit the two inside clips under the rail, and slide the two pieces together. But most of them look like this - they don't stay sung, there aren'y any fastners to keep them together, and I really hate the look of this gap.

Any advice on this? Did I do something wrong when I installed them?

The piece closest to us in the photo has two notches. Is the other piece supposed to snap into that?

Maybe post the relevant part of the install guide for us?

I know... I have 2 or 3 that don't sit right. I just close my eyes when I swim past them! Enjoy your new pool!
