As you can see in my signature my pool is brand new. It got finished 3 months ago and we have been swimming in it. I've been checking it with the test strips the pool company provided. they came and put a bunch of stuff in a couple weeks ago because it was included in the build price. After doing some reading I found out my CYA level was was off the chart on my test strip. My water has always been crystal clear but I'm just concerned for the safety of my family and friends as we have A LOT of swim parties. I brought it to Leslie's and they confirmed. I did a water exchange overnight and got my CYA down to 70. They then sold me a bunch of stuff because my chlorine level was too low. I realized after I added it all the stuff they gave me also contained CYA. So I did another water exchange and got it back down to 70 after it rising to 100. So I ordered a TF100 test kit and bought some liquid chlorine at home Depot and I'm going to start the trouble free pool method. As of today chlorine looks good according to my test strips and Leslie's. My test strips are showing my pH is low and Leslie's is telling me it is too high so here we go again. Once I get my test kit in I won't have to go there anymore for testing. Wish me luck.

Welcome to TFP!!! :swim:

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Welcome to #TeamPoolStored.

Add 5ppm of liquid chlorine a day until you test kit gets here...nothing else.

Post up results and we'll get you square.

Great place to start...Link-->Pool Care Basics

Congrats on finding us and sorry you were Pool Stored. Liquid Chlorine only until you can test with your own test kit. Then tell us the results and we can help from there. No more pool store testing or test strips.

Question about the CYA test? I could kind of see the black dot at 85 but at 70 it looked like the tube was filled with smoke and couldn't see it at all. What do you guys look for in that test?
I made adjustments using the calculator app. I put in under the recommended dosages and I'm going to retest until I know how my pool reacts.

Were you outside in sunlight when you did the CYA test?

Do this. Tomorrow morning, when there is sunlight, even overcast. Fill to first line. Hold the test tube at your waist, sun at your back, and glance. Is the dot obscured? No? Fill to the next line...rinse and repeat until the dot is obscured at a line. That is your CYA. Lighting matters, it is a turbidity test.

The only two things that matter at this point?
#1 Chlorine. Get your chlorine up, use CYA of 80 for your CYA, unless you get a good CYA test as above, then use that value. Get it to recommended range. Link-->FC/CYA Levels
#2, reduce your pH to get it into the 7s. Do it in .4 increment (no larger) until you are in the 7s and stop. Use muriatic acid.

Separate your chlorine and muriatic additions by 30 minutes...not at the same time...pump running.

Also, Home Depot tends to be high priced on LC from what I’ve seen and read here. Most Walmart‘s sell 10% for 5.47 a gallon. I’ve seen some places (mentioned here, mainly Menards but I dont think they have those in AZ) cheaper than that. Mind as well shop around and save even more money!!!

Welcome to TFP!
I see @PoolStored has gotten you off to a good start.

Great that you already have a recommended test kit.

Where in AZ are you?
Knowing a more precise location will assist us in providing better advice for your specific pool locale.

How did you put your information under your name like that. I went into settings and changed my signature but it doesn't show up when I reply to stuff

PC: click your name in upper right, the account details

Good call. It was $10.88 for a 2 pack!
