Building my inground, and wondered do I 'shock' the water after refilling (to remove cloudiness) like I would a normal chlorine pool BEFORE I start the SWG system? Or does the SWG take care of any residual cloudiness? Never had one before, and the directions I was given aren't that great.

An SWG is designed to replace the FC lost each day but is not up to the task of chlorinating a new pool from scratch. So add stabilizer to your new water to achieve 60-80 ppm, then dose liquid chlorine to reach 6-8 ppm FC. Experiment with your SWG's production level and run time to keep FC in that range.

Use PoolMath to determine how much stabilizer and chlorine is required.

You need to check with your pool builder about that. I think you need to allow a certain period of time for the plaster to cure before you add salt. I'm not sure, I've never built a new one myself.

But yes, just add liquid chlorine daily to keep your FC within range. You'll need to test every day at first to determine how much to add. After a couple of weeks, you'll develop a feel for how much chlorine your pool needs daily and you can just add that much each day and test a couple of times per week.

Do you have one of our recommended test kits. If not, order one ASAP. It's the best money you'll ever spend on your pool.

While you're waiting for the kit to arrive, check out our Pool School to see how the TFP method differs from typical pool store advice and why it works so well. Start with Pool Care Basics.
