Start capacitor help needed

Our motor hummed but did not start. We replaced the capacitor with an identical one. Still humming but not starting. If I spin the shaft it starts and keeps on going. What else besides the capacitor could be the problem?

Some motors also have a run capacitor. What model pump and motor are you using?

If you only have the 1 capacitor and you've already changed it, what you are describing sounds like a bad winding in the motor which generally means its time for a new motor.

Make sure the contacts are clean on the centrifugal switch on the back of the motor

The centrifugal switch contacts will look like a "V" if it has a switch.
