Prior threads in CHEM 201 were very helpful! I was battling stains and this forum suggested that I wait until end of season to do the AA treatment once my CYA was in range. I bought my Taylor 100 kit, SLAMMED and was able to stabilize my CYA and all levels have remained in range (for the past few months). The staining did not worsen but is still visible.

I am about to do the AA treatment, and my question is, do I follow Pool School math to normalize the CYA and other levels before I start the closing process?
Newbie at pool closing and assume a SLAM is part of the closing process? Also, am confused as to Polyquat 60. I see on forums that it can be bought locally - Walmart/Home Depot, but there are so many algaecide products, I can't begin to sort it out!

Any guidance will be much appreciated. Thanks!!!!!

Well, as always, give us a complete set of current test results so we can all get on the same page.

Next, I am not quite sure what you mean by using Pool School math to normalize so let's just start with your current readings.

Why don't you skip the algaecide? Most folks do and the end result seems about the same as if you had used it.

What's you current water temp?

Here is the process to close an inground pool,
Pool School - Closing an In Ground Pool

If you want to add the polyquat60 here is what you are looking for on the label,
Polyquat is Poly[oxyethylene(dimethyliminio)ethylene(dimethyliminio)ethylene dichloride]
The only algaecide we recommend using. Often sold in a 60% concentration as Algaecide 60 or something similar.

I assume you are following the AA article from Pool School?
Ascorbic Treatment to rid Pool of metal stains

FC 12.5, CC 0 TC 12.5
CYA 75
PH 7.2
Water temp: 78

A little perplexing - last check (9/22) TC 6.5 with a CYA 65. We've not added any bleach, salt remains at 3,000 only change is running gas heater some days. I did the TC test twice with the same result.

Sorry, I meant using Pool Math to obtain SLAM (if appropriate) after AA treatment.

Sure do appreciate the help! We're about to drop temps by 20+ degrees so it's time to close up, sadly!

Yes, Pooldv, I do follow the AA article!
