Stabilizer in Green Pool

Hi,

I understand that I need to SLAM my pool as it is pretty green right now (had to replace pump seal). I know my stabilizer level is pretty low, and we have some sunny days here.

Should I add in stabilizer or chlorine first when dealing with a green pool? (I'd like to add in stabilizer so that the chlorine I add in after doesn't get used up quickly) And how long do I have to wait between adding in the stabilizer and the chlorine?

Thank you!

You will need a test kit to do a SLAM -- I know you are in Canada and that can be problematic. But there is really no other way.Pool School - Test Kits Compared
Normally you would put enough CYA granules in a sock to dissolve in the skimmer with the pump running to get to 30PPM. Then use the FC/CYA chart based on the CYA to Pool School - SLAM - Shock Level And Maintain
You can just assume the CYA is there. Go to the SLAM. Of course, adjust pH to 7.2 prior to raising FC above 10.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies!

Please see attached image, I have these 2 with me. I'm assuming both work (one is granules and the other one is tablets), but is there a preference?

Also, instead of the skimmer-sock method, I've been reading about hanging the sock over a return jet. Thoughts?

You can put sock over return jet two if your prefer. The 1st one is chlorine tablets, you want to save those and only use them when you're going to be away on vacation to keep chlorine levels up. The second looks like what you need. They should be granuals.
