I'm trying to size out our planned water feature. I'd like to make sure the spray/splash from it stays in the confines of the spa.

The feature will be built into that wall at the far end of the spa and will be shooting water toward the pool (toward the camera). The spa has 12' of length between the feature wall and the weir wall so I'm confident we won't run into problems in that direction and, even if we did, it wouldn't really matter. What I want to ensure is that we aren't losing water out the sides of the spa. I looked on youtube and found some videos but it's hard to get a great sense of it -- they look like the water isn't splashing a ton towards the sides but hard to really see.

Does anyone have one of these things? I'm basically trying to figure out how far to the right/left the spray/splash from these goes. Ours will have a ~3' drop to the waterline.

My PB also said wind can wreck some havoc with the sheer waterfalls. Does anyone have a sheer and live in a windy place? We're at the top of a hill and get a ton of wind...would it be smarter to go with a "rain" arc instead?

More details of our specific situation:

The spa is 9' wide in total: 1' wall -> 2' bench -> 3' water <- 2' bench <- 1' wall.

A variable speed pump should let us play with the power and maybe support a few different options re: how far to throw the water, but I'd guess we'll stick to a very low-power mode when we just want a little noise and a second option that throws it enough that you could sit below it and have it arc over your head.

A 3' wide feature...wouldn't be coming straight down on anyone's head that's sitting along the sides of the spa (the primary seating areas). Originally I was thinking wider, but wider and it feels like it would be coming down onto the people sitting along the side benches. Anything smaller and it feels like it would seem too small/out of place given the width of the spa.

The only other thing I could think to do would be more a curtain type effect that could probably run the entire 7' length of the recessed part of the wall... We're using an iridescent tile that I bet would look pretty cool with that effect...but I still think the kids would have a bit more fun playing under an arc of water instead.

You know what I am thinking??? Get some thin wood and play with a big hose running over it some how to duplicate the different effects. This is going to be a unique feature so there may not be a lot of input as it outside the norm. It IS going to be SO pretty and could be fun as well!
