Spewing Green Sludge

Hello!

I just finished backwashing for a several minutes. The water started clear, turned very dirty and I kept it running until it was clear. Then I rinsed for about a minute or so until the water was clear. I then let it rest for several minutes and turned it back to filter.

The result was a the spewing of some nasty cloud into the pool for several seconds. The cloud plumed into the pool and is dispersing. Why is this happening? It's not the first time! I took apart the filter and deep cleaned it this last weekend and it was definitely an improvement for the pool, but I'm not sure what I need to do differently.

Any help would be appreciated! I took a video and posted it here so you could see what I am talking about. Please forgive the length and talking :)

Thanks so much for all you guys do :)

My pump is 1.5 hp and the filter is an 18" Blue Torrent Sand Filter.

Hello Richard,

Thank you for sharing your detailed process. Based on your description and the video, it appears that the issue might be related to your pool's chemistry rather than an equipment malfunction. The cloudiness and the presence of green sludge suggest that there might be an underlying algae problem.

To get a better understanding of the situation, could you please post a current photo of your entire pool? Additional can you provide us with test results to really help guide the process of clearing your pool.

Of course! Thank you again.

Here is the photo. I'm sorry if this is an inconvenient way to post them. I can try another way if that's better.

As for the chemistry problem. I had just finally completed a week and a half SLAM process. The FC was at 16 last night. I knew the kids were all coming over today so I planned on raising it again one more time tonight and checking again tomorrow.

CYA is at 40.
I've been keeping the FC between 12 and 16. I raised it to 16 when I realized that my CYA was at 40, not 30 the last time I tested.
TA: 100
pH: 7.6-7.8. It changes sometimes.
CH: 175

I use the Pool Math app to keep track so I can give you more details if that helps.

Again, I'm so grateful that you guys do this. Last year was an up-hill never ending struggle with a pond. I tracked with you guys at the beginning of this year, got the TF-100 kit and we finally got the pool clear and sparkling. It wasn't until last Thursday that it got cloudy and then green. I started the SLAM and like I said, it was finally turning yesterday afternoon.

I just don't understand why the filter wouldn't put out that kind of water when it's been running regularly, but once I backwash and rinsed it does it like the video showed for several seconds.

Thanks for the quick reply!
