spacer ring on jandy 3 way diverter

Still fighting a small air leak on my suction side, suspecting now one of the 3 jandy divertor valves on the suction side.

My Son replaced the orings on all three but didn't replace the spacer ring on 2 of them and the 3rd didn't have one.

Are these required, and could them missing cause the air leak?

Can you be more specific? Are you talking about the 2 orings that go on the thumbscrew hole? Did he lube the orings?

Yes, I'm talking about the hard plastic spacer ring that goes between the 2 small o-rings on the handle shaft. He did lube the o-rings.
