Spa spillway help!!!

I’m in the tile phase of my owner build new pool construction. My tile guy explained to me that my spa spillway may be too short for water to fill the spa and spill over into the pool without the water reaching the coping. Once tile goes in, I’ll have 1.5” from the inside of the spa to the top of the coping. A half inch grade will be used for the spill side of the spillway. So my question is, should I cut down the gunite to have more of 3” from the coping inside the spa? The attached picture is before the tile but you can see what I mean.

You shouldn't have any problem as is since it wont be possible for the water level to go any higher than the spillway. Your situation is very common in pools where the pool and spa bond beam heights are at the same elevation.

If you lower the spillway you'll likely end up too close to the rebar and may end up with rust issues down the road.

Waterproofing is the key to lasting pool interiors:

I got out and measured today. I hope you are right.

I dont think you will have a problem, but if you do, you should be able to easily adjust the spa return to lessen the amount of water going into the spa while in pool mode.
