Sometimes no flow at skimmer

I’ve been running into a weird problem. Every once in a while I find that there is no water moving through the skimmer. The equalizer valve is closed and the assembly is held on tightly against the o-ring by pump suction. It’s so tight I can’t be moved at all.

I have been wondering if it’s possible that at high RPMs the section from the pump is preventing the float in the equalizer assembly from floating.

Haven’t read about this before so curious if anyone has any suggestions on how to approach this.

Its an Admiral S20 skimmer and I have the correct equalizer assembly and basket and an after market pressure fit weir door.

When the float gets to low from the water in the skimmer getting low it connects to the main drain.. once that happens the pump must be shut off then the lid can be removed so the skimmer will start working again.. It is a safety feature so your pump will not run out of water and kill itself.. :)

MPH,

Is your skimmer connected to an equalizer port or to the Main Drain??

Either way, if you let the water get low enough to cause the floating diverter to sink, then you are letting the water get way too low.

If it is intermittent, then most likely your weir door is intermittently sticking up.. This will cause all the water to be sucked out of the skimmer, which causes the floating diverter to sink, and it will just stay that way until you turn off the pump..

Thanks,

Jim R.
