Some questions about resurfacing due to "the downside of an ultra clear TFP"

Hi all,

Thanks to all the advice on this forum I have a pool so clear you can barely tell there's water if it isn't moving or doesn't have a crisp mirror reflection on it.



The "downside" as you can see... it's very clear how badly my concrete needs to be refinished. I've gotten a couple quotes so far between 4K to 6K, but I can't spring for it until at least next spring. I wanted to start a thread to collect information as I choose the new finish for my pool. From what I've read here I think I should continue to get quotes, but I really have no experience or knowledge of what products are really worth the $$$

Current quotes were from Blue Horizons (6K for either quartz or pebble finish including tile). They had 10 year warranty and told me the companies offering "lifetime" were not warrantying the plaster but just "the pebbles" I'm not sure...
the 2nd quote was a wet edge from All Phase pools under 4K for regular plaster and tile 5 year warranty and just under 5K for wet edge pebble with "lifetime warranty" which they state is for the whole product (but i didn't see in writing)...

So I'd like to get any other suggestions... If I go pebble I want it in appearance like pebble sheen not actual pebble feel like pebble tec. I want a good value and long lasting product (willing to accept that may not be forever lifetime but would like at least 10+years before it looks the way it is now)

Any suggestions or inputs on how to proceed? What options I should look into? What products people like the best? The longest lasting (via experience not warranty) would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Well maintained plain plaster should last 10+ years. Your moon crater finish was likely the result of poor water quality. The next step up is quartz. Smooth like plaster and color options. Then the pebbles, sheen/tec and the like. Then on top, longevity and price-wise is Aquabright, which is a flamethrower applied polymer (plastic/rubber) product. But for AB, you would certainly need a plain plaster job first since yours is compromised, then the AB. So that will be quite costly.

Quartz might be a good compromise of value and longevity for you.

Thanks for the info! I don't know how old the current finish is, or the history of the chemistry, but I do want to fix my "moon craters". So far the company quoting quartz was higher than pebble with less warranty but I'll check some more out.
