Solar pool covers - cut to size?

Hello everyone!

Brand new above ground pool owner and first-ever post on TFP (please be gentle!).

We are currently leveling our ground and hoping to put up the pool in the next week or two ... very late in the season but we literally just found one in stock at one of our local stores.

Anyways, question of the day is regarding solar pool covers. We have a Coleman/Bestway 16x8x48 AGP and can't seem to find a solar cover that's exactly this size. All of them seem to be quite a bit larger.

Question - is it necessary to cut a solar cover to fit or can you just use a larger one 'as-is' and fold over the sides into the pool or something?

TIA!

I would cut it to fit the pool. The concern with having it too big is wind can get under it and blow it off the pool. If it’s cut to fit the pool it will sit down at water level and be nearly impossible for wind to get under it. They are quite easy to cut with a pair of scissors.
