They are supposed to allow water on top of the cover to drain back into the pool.
Based on their suggested placement near the edge of the cover, I don't really see a need.
I use a cover on a reel and have never had an issue with water draining off - without use of drain grommets.
Yea. Seemed a bit gimmicky to me too. Thought it might reduce the amount of water that gets captured when rolling the cover up on the reel. I doubt it though.
My solar cover never went on with the same air pockets twice. Then I'd brush them out the best I could, never leaving the same small air pockets twice.
I imagine Murphys would come into play alot and the grommets would sit a few inches from the rain puddle on top, just laughing at me.
