So frustrated algae keeps coming back

OK folks I am beyond frustrated and about to call a pool guy and get on with my life.....I have an algae problem that wont go away.. I have been dealing with this problem since March..First off I got a new liner installed and filled up my pool its been crazy hott here in Charlotte above 90's most day since June and still going..My pool is losing water about an inch a day.. I thought is was evaporation but soon decided (bucket test) that is was a leak...Leak pro is on vacation for 2 weeks.. really 2 weeks in the middle of summer but that's another story..So i have been topping off for an hour every other day..Finally got some advise from a pool cleaner friend of a friend and he suggested shocking the pool.. So i put in 5 pounds HYPO and after running the pump 24/7 a day and a half later is was perfect...beautiful clear water.... Then last week went on vacation for 4 days and had to shut of the pump for fear of burning out my motor...pool leak guy still on vacation...dude really???....came home to pool level under the skimmer and more algae...cloudy water cant see the bottom of the deep end so again filled up for 3 hours to acceptable level and then shocked again this time with only 3 bags figuring it wouldn't need as much and am fearful of harming my liner.. 2 days later still cant see any difference and I still have algae. I assume I didn't use enough shock this 2nd time so I add a bag last night and still no difference..I tested again this morning only had time to do my PH and its pinkish red and above 7.8....I assume I need to bring that level down?
So my questions are:
Is shocking more than once a season harming my pool...
If my PH is high will it take longer or is it a waste of time to shock if they are so high...
should I shock again using the 5 bags recommended and try again but wont this be bad for my pool?
I will update numbers this evening....

Thanks for the advice in advance

As you have been on the forum a while you know the drill. We need a set of test results from your own kit.

Should be no reason to not just follow through with a SLAM Process and keep the water clean. Your leak is relatively small, though you will need to manage CYA levels after several refills.

I had nothing but problems until I started following the methods on this forum. It sounds like you are using powdered shock and not liquid chlorine. I would get a proper test kit if you do no have one (drop test wont give you accurate chlorine levels for a slam). First you need to know your cya level and then you need to slam that sucker until its clean. Maintenance is a breeze if you follow the trouble free pool method.

Thanks folks but I have SLAMMED with gallons of chlorine 10% and nothing happened- 5 bags of cal hypo and my pool was sparkling clean in 24 hrs.. why does everyone hate or not recommend pool shock why do the sell it if its so bad.. my question is will it be bad if I re shock ? UPDATE: pool leak has been fixed so I assume I adjust my PH and go ahead with slam or shock

'Shock' is a method, not a product.

If you use solid chlorine that Pool Stores sell as 'shock' it is dichlor, CYA and chlorine in near equal parts, or Cal Hypo, calcium and chlorine. We recommend using Liquid chlorine, which adds a tiny bit of salt and chlorine. CYA and calcium do not leave your pool unless you drain and can cause issues once concentrations hit certain amounts.
