Snow / Ice tonight

I am not a big fan of using the pump to prevent freeze damage. First is to understand the risk of freeze damage and when it is most likely to occur. Short dips (< 8hrs) below freezing are not of much concern but prolonged periods of freezing is of significant concern. When these freezing periods occur, I think it is much more prudent to drain the pad equipment rather than to rely on the pump.

View attachment 387961Same storm here in the upstate of SC so I thought I would tag along on this thread. I have power and my pump is running and water is flowing however, with all the snow and sleet my water is now just above the skimmer. Is it safe to drain some or should I just leave it alone until things thaw out. Normally our snow here comes and goes in the same day or next day but this time it may stick around a few days.

I know this is probably a royal PIA for you and your geography, but this looks absolutely beautiful! I've often how much I'd love to have our pool open year round in the winter here.

It is nice I drop a tablet in about once a month so it doesn’t turn green like the neighbors pool and it is easy other than draining some water from time to time.
No PIA here I am a transplant and miss the snow. The nice thing about here is the roads clear themselves in a day or two so no real shoveling either.
