Hi there. My water levels are balanced yet I have random spots of algae that appear in my corners and on my ladder, along with other various areas (inside skimmer box). I walk around and brush it away, vacuum, add chlorine if needed. The water is crystal clear otherwise.

Is there something else I should be doing? I don’t want to add Borax because I have a dog who swims and licks at the water often and I read it can be toxic. Any advice is appreciated!

Welcome to TFP. Good to have you here :)

Free floating algae is invisible to the naked eye. When you start to see it, it's taking hold, and uses the areas with low water circulation to develop into colonies. Generally speaking, once we see algae, we do a SLAM to annihilate it. Here's the procedure: SLAM Process

Good luck with it and great vigilance to find it before it gets bad :)
