i have a very small 1/4-1/8 inch gap around my pool where the cool decking meets the pool coping. there is no room for foam any other such material, but i do think it should be caulked. any input/suggestions on this would be appreciated. if caulk, what kind?

That is your expansion joint. Hopefully it is not compromised and letting the deck put pressure on the bond beam.
Fill it with Deck-O-Seal or Sikaflex-A.

Saw cut the joint a minimum of 4” deep to insure their is no contact between the coping and deck, then fill with Deck-O-Seal.
