Thank you for the info! I've got to figure out how to take the pump and cartridge setup apart or just bring the entire base inside now.
I'd like to learn how to upgrade to a sand filter but still use existing pump that was upgraded last year. Any suggestions or links that you could share would be appreciated.

Since it's new water, I'd add enough cya to get to about 30 ppm and then add enough fc to get to shock level. Then cover it.

Yes, you should go ahead and run a full set of tests and adjust what needs to be and then add the CYA and raise the FC level. Sorry I wasn't more clear.
I'll let others advise on that as this is my first year wintering a pool and I'm further north than you. I know some in Georgia don't close at all, others do, you might search here and make up your own mind.
