Slam FC is 40% of the CYA. If the CYA changes, (from backwashing, etc), then so does the FC target.

Try this with your CYA test. Stand outdoors, with your back to the sun. Fill to the first line. Hold and your waist in front of you in the shadow of your body. Glance. If the dot is visible, fill to the next line. Repeat until the dot is obscured. Take the number on that line and add 10. That is your CYA.

On day 4 of slam! Still some cloudiness. I have realized i am vaccuming up a small amount of sand from bottom of pool. Wondering if we are having a filter issue. Pool season is coming to an end and we bought this house with the pool one month ago. Debating wrapping up for the szn and potentially getting a new filter next year.

I’d fix it if there is an issue. I would close after Oct 15 in NJ. You want water cold when you close, and use our closing guide to avoid a swamp in the spring.

Hmm ok. Someone said our filter is too small for our pool, they typically see this filter on intex pools so was already considering getting a new filter next year

What type/brand of filter would you guys recommend?

The largest you can afford. Many here like and recommend cartridges.
