Good evening everyone. I had to replace about half of my water as i had gotten way too much CYA (over 100ppm). That was on saturday. I have kept SLAM levels very consistent using the TF-pro and pool math yesterday and today. Please see the pictures and provide best guess for how much longer until the water is sparkling clear. I also have a sand filter which i read will be the slowest in getting it totally clean but i have to go back to work tomorrow and it will be about 12 hours between FC checks. Any and all thoughts are appreciated!

Did you retest your CYA level after draining? It is always best to confirm.
Good job thus far on maintaining the FC level.
You are right about sand filter, it does take longer to clear algae.
Did you clean under the rungs of the ladder to ensure there is no algae there?
Have you done a Overnight Chlorine Loss Test yet? That is one of the criteria to stop a SLAM.
The other is clear water and no visible algae and CC is 0.5ppm or less.

I did recheck CYA. Holding steady at 55.
I didn’t think about the ladder underside, good call. I swept and vacuumed yesterday and today. I had .5 cc already. I will do the over night test tonight

Consider your CYA as 60. Therefore your SLAM FC should be 24ppm. If not at that level then raise FC immediately.
That’s what I’ve been doing. I was really just wondering how long the process takes, but I see now it’s interdependent with my pool.

Also I hope you are good after the hurricane. My sister in Humble just got power back today. I grew up in Pasadena

Great.
I was fortunate and only loss power for 3 days - some are still struggling now without it. I think Katy was fortunate to have the eye come over us so all the strong winds were to the east of us which is why Galveston, Houston, Spring, Humble got the brunt of the storm.

Overnight chlorine showed no loss. CC was .5 And it was more clear this morning than yesterday. Do I let FC drop down to regular levels now? Also without a chlorine generator is of safe to use a 3” tablet in a floater as long as it keeps it in the proper range or should I just be adding liquid chlorine as required?

I am no expert - but dichlor and tricolor have cya in them. Your free chlorine should be 7.5 percent of your CYA on a regular basis. My 20k gallon pool also has a cya of 60 and the chart shows I must maintain free chlorine between 7-9 with minimal acceptable at 5.
This is after you slam. I had to read Siam over and over to understand but I didn’t have algae so I didn’t have to do it. If an expert doesn’t answer soon, re-read pool school directions on algae treatment amd slamming.
So my point is when you shock with dichlor or tricolor you’re raising the cya again which requires more chlorine.

3 requrements - 1 pass OCLT ✔️, 2 pass CC ✔️, 3 Clarity ???? "it was more clear this morning than yesterday"
I would continue to SLAM at least 1 more day.
Please use liquid chlorine to manage your daily FC levels Pucks will either add CYA or Calicum both of which will increase over time and require to drain pool water to lower both.

Sounds good. Thanks for the advice
