Okay I’m a little freaked about SLAMing my pool. My pool is 30k and on the shock it says to just add 3 gallons of liquid chlorine but if I shock using the SLAM method I need to add almost 7 gallons. I did OCLT last night and my levels went from 5.5 to 5. Do I just do the SLAM? How soon can my kids swim again. My pool isn’t super green just not as clear as usual.

Safe to swim during SLAM - you'd likely want to wait 20-30 minutes after liquid chlorine additions.
My kids swim at FC levels that would freak most people out - without goggles, with no issues.

Your OCLT results don't suggest you need to SLAM - when was the last time the filter was cleaned?

I just cleaned it last night and I clean it once a week normally and brush my pool at least once a week. My only concern is that I see dead algae on the bottom of my pool. I’m very ocd about testing my water and my chlorine level is never under 4ppm. I dumped 3 gallons of liquid chlorine in and I’m going to run the pump for 24 hrs to see if that helps and vacuum out dead stuff. If that doesn’t work I will go from there.

Safe is really dependent on the CYA content and as long as it's within the limits you're golden.

Okay thanks for all the help just added the 7 gallons of liquid chlorine recommended by pool math with my cya levels. I will test levels in 30 minutes. Question is it okay to put my auto vac back in the pool now? This way it will get sanitized too.
