SLAM when opening pool?

Opened the pool last week. Water was clear with some expected debris at the bottom (thanks to TFP for a very good closing last year!) Vacuumed and brushed, backwashed and recharged the DE filter. CH is 100, TA is 90, CYA is 35 and pH is 7.2. Virtually no chlorine (FC is 0.5). Using Pool Math to get FC up to 3-4ppm, but not sure.if I should SLAM first?

Perform the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to find out if there is something in the water.

It never hurts to start off the season following the SLAM Process process to ensure the water is perfect to start the season ... if the pool is mostly clean should only take a couple days.

Start the SLAM Process today. Dose it for the last time an hour or so before bed, test FC and CC just before bed and again first thing in the morning when you get up. If you passed the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test, you're done. If you didn't, you got a day's head start on the SLAM Process.

Ok... Started the SLAM using Pool Math added 2.5 gallons of 10%LC. Will check FC tonight (target 12ppm) before bed, leave the pump running and check again first thing in the morning. Thanks for the feedback! I'll reply here tomorrow for an update.

Why wait until tonight? Initially you should retest and adjust ever 1-2 hours.

Good catch... just checked...FC is now 7.5ppm, CC is 0.5 and TC is 8.0. Going to add another gallon to get to FC of 12
