Tulsa, OK
Pool Size
10000
Surface
Vinyl
Chlorine
Liquid Chlorine
Facts as of right now:

1. Pool was partially drained at closing last year as I was running the Pristine Blue system and want to change over to bleach/chlorine this season.
2. Pool is now ridiculously green due to poor cover removal...all the debris was dumped into my CLEAN water and turned green within 2 days, as I was working to get all the gunk out. *still mad abt this*
3. Fresh water has been added back in, water level is up and cartridge filter is running. Did first water testing yesterday: ZERO CYA, Sky-high PH. FC 1, TA 70
4. Added appropriate amounts of MA and Stabilizer as per Pool School App. Pump still running. Still HULK-green, understandably.

I know it's SLAM time, but HERE'S my question:

We have a WEEK of raining weather forcasted in OK... should I start the SLAM?? Or wait until I have clear weather for a few days?

Ideas, suggestions... bring them on!

How much rain? A couple inches won't affect things much. Figure your pool is roughly 50" deep so 1" is 2%. You can't even detect 2% difference on the water tests. It will take enough rain that you'll want to siphon some off before it really messes with the chemistry. On the plus side. grey skies will reduce the chlorine losses to UV, so you'll use less bleach.

You'll get soaked trying to brush in the rain, but I see no other downside.

Thanks! I don't think it's anything major, just normal Oklahoma sporadic weather....I'm definitely thankful for that cloud cover right now... =)

I've scooped most the debris out, and only have a manual to pump vacuum. I've already cleaned the cartridge once and it was just all green slime (algea). I'm sure I'll have to clean that filter a few times during this whole process. ? Shopping amazon for an inline debris basket thingy.

I have a cartridge filter too, if you're planning on getting a new cartridge for the season you might consider using a pressure washer to clean the old cartridge as you SLAM.

I did that last year when I opened my "swamp" as I had to use 2 cartridges in tandem as I was running the pump 24 hours a day. Just spray short bursts starting from the top to the bottom and move to the left or right as you finish a section. If you don't spray it full blast continuously you shouldn't damage it, and if you're going to retire the filter after the SLAM it doesn't matter anyways.

yeah, I'm considering replacing this filter. I feel like I'm pushing it to it's limits! Lol...I'm rinsing it once a day with a high pressure hose, then right back in the filter housing it goes. Once I get that water clean, I feel like a fresh filter would be the logical next step.
Do you have any good resources for purchasing new ones? I've looked online a bit, but my filter has NO markings in regards to brand, model... NOTHING... so I'm just going off measurements.

Hope I did that right... hulk green was Sunday, cloudy blue-ish is today.... I think the progress is going pretty good... still have some crud in the very center.... dropped my brush and pole in today while brushing in the rain. UGH. Always something...

Wow no markings on the filter at all? That's tough then. Do you mean no markings on the actual unit or the cartridge filter itself? If there's nothing on the unit, maybe the cartridge has some model numbers we can work with to find a replacement

my apologies, the cartridge itself doesn't have any markings. After researching my limited paperwork, putting bits of info together and Google... I think I finally found the correct cartridge and possible replacement on amazon. Just need to confirm actual measurements when I clean the filter the next time.
*side note: I purchased my pool as a "bundle" from a "home recreation" store in Tulsa. NEVER AGAIN, and wouldn't recommend to anyone. I feel like I got bamboozled! LOL... So much missing paperwork, lack of education, their up-sale game is on point...
So I'm SO happy to have TFP as a resource!
