I began SLAM a week ago. The first 3 days I saw huge improvement from swamp green to teal but I’ve been stuck there for 4 days now. I test FC every 2 hours from 8am to 10pm and since stuck have been losing maybe 1 FC every 4 hours and maybe 1-2 overnight. I test CC once a day and have gone from 6 to 1.5 but stuck. I’ve dug out all the leaves (blindly) but am not getting anymore and removed the pool ladder. I brush twice a day. New filter and sand. New set of reagents. Backwash when it gets to 8 (sits at about 5). But still can only see maybe 6”. Suddenly last night I lost 8 FC. From Friday to today the temp has dropped from 90 to 60. What am I doing wrong?

If you started with a swamp, it’s gonna be more than a week to clear up. You’re using liquid chlorine?
 
I understand it’s going to be more than a week. I’m not asking what is taking so long. I started with dark green and couldn’t see an inch. In the first 3 days it went to teal and I could see 6”. I’d expect slow improvements to continue and to get more blue slowly and be seeing 9” then 12”, etc. until it’s finally clear. I have had 0 improvement in 4 days. That is my concern. I use 10% liquid bleach.

Sand filters take the longest to clear the pool. Intex AGP filters take even longer because they are undersized.
Are you backwashing the filter? How often. Backwash and not filter pressure. When the pressure rises 25% over clean pressure, backwash again.

Any idea how old the 10% liquid chlorine is? Liquid chlorine rapidly deteriorates in heat and sunlight. It will lose up to 50% potency in the first six months after production. Always double check the date code stamped on the package/bottle. It is usually a Julian date, i.e., a 2 digit year followed by a 3 digit day. So a code "25065" indicates Mar 6, 2025, as Mar 6 is the 65th day of 2025.
