SLAM Question

I am battling mustard algae and will begin the SLAM process soon. My question is - can I SLAM my pool leaving the confer steps in the pool? The steps have algae in the side panels? I ask because they are very difficult to remove.

Note- pool is currently crystal clear. Pictures are to show steps.

May be the lighting but water looks a bit cloudy to me.
The longer you delay a slam the longer it will take to finish. If need one start ASAP. Did you perform a OCLT?
I would remove ladder if it has a chance of harboring algae and has places you can’t brush.

Hey Lori !!! Every last bit of algae of any kind needs killing. Those stairs foul everybody. So you’re not alone.

You can try moving them into the middle of the pool where you’ll have better access to scrub every inch and they will flip around to empty the rails much easier. The high FC up to and including SLAM level for the FC/CYA Levels is safe to be in for you.

Or buy a neighbor a 12 pack for some help. Or $25 to the HS linebacker that lives a few houses down the street. Somebody has to be available and willing if you asked around. If you don’t know the neighbors that well, What a great chance to meet them !!

In your experience, do you think I can clean them inside the pool and not remove them?
I do scrub them. My husband didn’t bolt them to the rails - the rails go in about 6-8 inches so between that and the water it holds them down nicely. He did that for me to move them freely in the pool to vacuum under them.

There is no issues with having it in the water, but the cake of algae stairs are well known to be perfect growing ground. You need to be able to scrub all around it.

Oh yeah. Whatever water they are holding needs to be flushed and all the nooks/crannies need to be scrubbed. Of course that’s easier on the lawn, if you can get help to get them out. But they will float/ slide to the middle of the pool where you can flip them around and swish out the old water just the same, and get to the insides much easier while not struggling to squeeze between the wall or get the parts 4 ft underwater.

I can move them in the pool freely. My problem isn’t the outside of them. The algae is in the side panels.

When flipped around in the pool the sides and back are much more accessible as the top.
