We are taking a camping vacay over Labor Day weekend. I have an SWG so that should turn on & run as normal so FC should not be an issue. I clean the skimmer & replace the skimmer sock everyday before everything starts up. Can I leave it a few days without cleaning skimmer or sock? We are heading out Friday & back Monday so just Sat & Sun unable to clean. Should I go sockless *gasps*?…never had a naked skimmer lol.

The pool has been my baby since set up end of July. Have not been away yet. It’s like leaving my child home alone for the first time…ack!

if you are getting a lot of debris in your skimmer sock - the risk is that if fills up and blocks water from going to your pump which could damage the pump, that is unless you also have a main drain that is feeding the pump.

The alternative is to only run the main drain and avoid any skimming while you are away. Is that feasible or do you get too much debris falling in your pool.

I have the cover that came with pool. Have not used it yet.

I also have air coming in from the restricted inlet. Had hubby tighten clamp but still air from that side. Manageable checking everyday but worries me with 2 days unchecked. Would be nice if I could plug that inlet but worry the suction from pump would pull plug through or a two way valve plunger that allows you to close one side off or a single valve plunger that works with inlet lol. I could not find one :(.

So better to just turn pump & SWG off while gone? That would be 3 days not running. Just put enough chlorine to last 3 days without any circulation?

To not worry about too much air accumulating in pump basket, basically I would like a screwless valve plunger with a single hose attachment. If they are single they have a screw (and my inlet attaches to hose via clamp not screw) or they are the double hose T type so still have to use or plug the 2nd inlet.

I wonder if the restrictor (to make skimmer more effective on other inlet) is causing the air into that hose. So maybe remove it while away & have a crappy skimmer and remove sock? Maybe have a lot of bug corpses but water still flowing & less risk of this getting clogged? Unless big stuff gets in without sock being an issue for a couple days…June bugs can get pretty big & a couple end up in pump basket even with sock lol.

Thanks Herman!

I found a solution, I think, to being able to add a plunger to the restricted inlet that is getting air bubbles. Found out about a type B adapter that will allow me to add single plunger to each inlet, meaning I can turn each one off by itself if one is bringing air into the pump. So, may be able to leave pump on to circulate & run SWG for the 2 days unattended. I get it tomorrow so will see. I just worry that the water not circulating will cause some algae to take hold even with FC slam level. But I could just be having wild momma pool worries for no reason lol. Let me know if my worry about circulation will not matter at SLAM levels.

No matter if I have pump on or off will put pool cover on. Thanks! Would I be able to use a submersible pump to get rain off the cover (if it rains…hear that makes the covers HEAVY lol) or would that type of pump be too heavy to put on cover?

If I can get rid of growing an air pocket for 2 days…if I have it covered (should cut down on bugs)…if circulation matters…sock on or off? I have found that the big bugs that get stuck in pump basket tend to usually get stuck in the weaves of the basket where the water is flowing into the pump. They don’t usually get caught in the weaves of the skimmer sock so float around. Somehow more bugs floating in skimmer basket sounds better to me than more big bugs stuck in pump basket weave right where it flows into pump.

And if worse case… bring to SLAM level & circulate a bit, cover, shut everything off for 2 days. And hopefully do not have the spend the little bit of pool season we have left doing a SLAM to clear algae I have never had yet.

Keep telling myself I can do this…momma can take a couple days away from baby pool…just breathe lol.
