Skimmer diverter is randomly shutting. Its been doing it for the last few months. At least a couple times a week. I've made a habit of checking before work to ensure that its not doing it at pump start and I've never found it not working as it should. Like tonight though, I came home from work and it had closed again. I keep a hairnet on my basket and change it every few days. I'm pretty sure its not getting full enough to cause loss of flow but can't be positive. I'm going to remove the net and check it out but thinking it might give me a false positive. My dog swims a couple times a week and I do my best to skim most of the hair out but there is obviously some left over that ends up in skimmer. Any other causes? Forgot to add that every time I reset the diverter it will work as it should and regains suction.

After doing some reading on here it looks like the diverter isn't required?

Well, the door seems to be fine. It moves freely. Is it possible the valve is failing? Seems a pretty simple device so not so sure that's it.

Another day with the same issue. The valve chatters when re-installing it and required 4 attempts to get it to stay open.

If you keep the water at proper skimmer level at all times then the skimmer diverter valve won't be needed. Its purpose is if the water dropped below the skimmer opening or too low to draw water without air, the valve draws water from the main drain automatically.

Yeah i've read that now. I'm going to remove it and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks.
