Skimmer Help Question

We are getting ready to put in a semi inground oasis swimming pool that is 21 x 43. I have been told to shy away from the size because it only has one skimmer which is not suitable for that size of pool. My question is if I buy a robotic skimmer in addition to the one skimmer, would that be sufficient? or should I go with the 18 x 33 to avoid skimming and water turn over issues?

Please help!!

Hey Miz and Welcome !!!

The ovals and rounds do surpringly well due to the toilet bowl action. Many have also added a second skimmer and there are plenty of examples if you search (icon in the upper right of page).

Or you can use 2 returns, one on each long wall to get the spin motion going real good and the single skimmer on the skinny side of the oval.

Dive in and check/search the above ground sub forum. There's tons of builds for inspiration/ideas. Get a build thread going there and we'll help at every step of the way. :)

I don’t know that there some kind of hard line where 1 skimmer vs 2 skimmers is mandatory. 2 skimmers tends to be better for skimming larger pools but it really depends on the design. The water “turnover”thing is an old myth. The water needs to move enough to skim and add chlorine (via a feeder or a salt water chlorinating). In case you missed it, TFP would recommend the use of the salt chlorinator over tablets.

I’d get whatever pool size you want and if you have a few extra leaves floating around on the surface, you can either turn the pump speed up to try and get more skimming or use a leaf net on extra heavy days along with some kind of automatic pool cleaner, (either a robot or pressure cleaner)

Being mindful of your prevailing wind direction when deciding where to place your skimmer(s) is also important. Although this isn’t always possible to put them in the ideal location with certain shapes & yard layouts as where the skimmer is, the pump/equipment will be right there too.
As mentioned, the skimmer doesn’t do the work on its own, the returns & their position have a ton to do with how much stuff ends up in the skimmer(s).
Are you not able to just add a skimmer to the pool you want? Not sure how that works with an extruded aluminum pool but it looks like it’s just a slightly different panel for the skimmer area that perhaps you could buy?

Hello, Please excuse my ignorance but am curious about "semi inground". We have an above ground, surrounded by a deck, and are interested in options to convert to a linerless shell. Is that what oasis is? does it have a center drain? Thank you for any insight

It’s essentially an above ground pool that has e forced walls that can be sunken into the ground. We will drop ours 32in.

I inherited a 17 year old one after moving. It was an absolute beast to take apart with a full aresenal of power tools. It would have likely lasted another 17 years.
