Skimmer Hairnets vs Skimmer Socks

So after a long day yesterday, I cleaned/vacuumed my pool and almost throw-up throughout the process of cleaning my skimmer sock. I tried giving the dirty skimmer sock to my hubby to clean, but he literally RAN the other way....loser. So I ended up cleaning it myself, but was sick to my stomach with all the worms and stuff in it. I've been telling myself that I'll get skimmer hairnets but often talk my way out of it....Now, I'm on amazon about to get some.... I found some but I don't know if these are what most people get on this forum. I want something that would work for me... any thoughts...

I would like the hairnet to fit snuggly on the skimmer sock...it looks like this picture below will do. Not sure though.

I use hairnets and duplicate skimmer baskets...

My baskets have a little rod across the top as a handle.. I original thought it was fixed in place and tried to use the hairnets over the top of the handle.. But from this site, I learned that the handle just pops out.. Now I pop out the handle, add the hairnet, and pop the handle back in..

So my routine is to have the duplicate baskets with hairnets already installed, in my pool shed.. When it is time to clean the skimmers, I go to the shed and get the new baskets, remove the old baskets along with the dirty hairnets, stick in the new baskets and hairnets.. I can then throw the dirty hairnets away, clean the baskets if needed, install the new hairnets and put the clean baskets back in the shed.

Works well for me...

Yes, that is the hairnet, but you don't put it on the sock... you use it in place of the sock! Just line your skimmer basket with it, it will be looser in the bottom.

Skippy would rinse our skimmer sock out with the hose by just turning it inside out and letting the debris fall as the hose cleaned it. I *resisted* ordering those hair coverings because they are not biodegradable.....

I finally gave in, I'm sort of ashamed to say. When filled with disgusting schmutz it is nice to just toss and be done with.

Instead of playing the pull out the bar scenario, I just ordered 2 skimmer baskets that had nothing in them...I then bought some real thick tie-twists [a more industrial version of what you get on the end of a loaf of bread], and fastened one on the inside of ea skimmer basket - makes it easy to lift out. this allows full flow into the hairnets and more so when I have the pump on 800-1000RPM. I know it's to each their own, but this makes the filtering process so much more effective...I"ll take a pic next time I pull them out and change them

Mendy, once you use the h-nets, you'll never go back to the s-socks...BTW, how are the worms getting into you skimmers anyway? They always sink to the bottom here in Texas; does Michigan have a new breed of floating worms? Sounds like they are probably falling into your skimmers from top access, yes?

And yes, those are the correct ones...buy 2 sets of 100, they will last you for 2 yrs+ Good luck

Hairnets are extremely popular, but I took a liking to the paint strainer nets like THIS ONE. They are durable, and one product will last me months. I grab it from the skimmer each day, turn it inside out, and actually beat it against my fencing to remove all the bugs, dog hair, and other junk. Plop it back into the skimmer basket until the next day. No rinsing, etc. Easy-peasy.

I'm still trying to figure out how to pull the basket out of the skimmer minus the fear of something might bit my finger.

ahhh...Brilliant, thanks! I think the stainless spring or splines from my old 24" windshield wiper blades might actually do the trick. I can only try!

Bugs, Spiders and mostly Bees! Yes, we get lots of suicidal bees in the pool surface causing the kids to scream and jump out of the pool like crazy

Yep, been using those since mid-summer last year. Put a couple of rocks (actually anything to hold the net down) in the bottom of the net. When the pump isn't running, the net tends to float up without the rocks.
