So where will you buy it from? I am also in the same dilemma I just want to be sure it works for my pool.

in my case, i have 2 options that are reasonable, each has pros and cons:
1) have it shipped to my USA drop box, and try to smuggle it across border (not likely doing this!) if i did this, and was successful, the net cost would be 1200$ canadian and i'd have to self install, thus 60d warranty. no rebate would be available, but the cost is still low. optionally i could not smuggle it and declare it. i'd pay tax and duty. not a great plan. i buy lots of things from the usa and use my usa drop box. however, i always have declared these smaller value items when i collect them because i dont want to be charged with crime/fraud. not worth it.
2) found a local guy who'd install it for 1485$ canadian, yielding a 2 year warranty. (most likely doing this). this includes the pool saver rebate and the 100$ pentair rebate
all my other options are too expensive, nearing 2000$ after tax.
what i really wanted to do, was buy it for 1400$ canadian, get the 400$ rebate and self install... too good to be true because it's not possible!
i will decide in the next week or so, and let people know how it goes.

1485 for the pump installed really isn't a bad price. That means that guy is pocketing the rebate and selling you the pump his cost plus about 2-3 hours labor.
I agree CJadamec. And what you described is clearly what other members of the pool cartel are doing here in town. Pocketing the rebate.
I should add the 1485$ is really 1585$- of course I need to go to pentair myself for the 100$ visa gift card. His price includes tax, install and fittings.
Also- he is selling the VSF model at that price, not the older VS. I haven't committed yet- but I do feel this is very reasonable. I expect he's making some money, but not totally ripping me. $1485 Canadian? That's a smoking deal for a dealer installed VSF. Jump on that. Even if it $1485USD it's a good price from what I've seen.

But it's a long thread of email and as I re-read it, it looks like he made a mistake this morning, because previously he said 1695$ for that pump and I could submit to pentair for 100$ back, making the total 1585$.
