Single Speed Pumps vs Variable Speed Pumps

The pump is about 2' higher than the pool but the top of the filtration tank is about 3' higher than the pump, which has to raise the water level to almost to the top of the tank before the water will start returning to the pool.
That is pretty much irrelevant.

Any pool pump can do well over 5 feet of head.

Once the returns are full, the static head drops to zero.

If you only have one skimmer and that is all you need, then maybe 20 gpm is fine.

For 2 skimmers, I would want maybe 30 GPM.

Your current pump uses about 1,650 watts.

Dropping down to 20 gpm will be closer to about 100 watts.

30 gpm might be about 175 watts.

$379.99 for a two speed motor is a good deal.

You can probably use low speed 100% of the time.

On low, the power usage will probably be about 235 to 275 watts and it should be pretty quiet.

HP: 1.0 HP
Speed. Dual
RPM: 3450/1725 RPM
Volts: 230 V
Amps: 7.4/3.0 amp
Service Factor: 1.65
Total HP: 1.65 HP
Frame: 56Y
Stock #: B982 or B2982

Here's a question for you: My FHPM 1.5 single speed has a self priming maximum lift of 10 ft. If the motor is replaced with a FHPM 1.0 dual speed, what would be the self priming maximum lift for each speed?

The "Total HP" needs to be 1.65.

On high speed, the priming is the same.

On low speed, the priming will be less, but I do not know the exact value.

I would guess about 3 to 5 feet.

You can prime on high and then switch to low.
