Hi, i watched a you tube video regarding how to eventually clean my Pentair clean and clear cartridge filter. In the demonstration the person briefly rinsed the filters and then proceeded to spray Simple Green on them. After about 20 minutes he thoroughly hosed them off. Is simple green a good product to use for cleaning the cartridges?

Also how often should filters be hosed down? My pressure doesn’t increase very much so I just had them done every 6 months by my pool guy who just hosed them down. Though now I plan to do it myself starting with the next time which will be in June.

Kul,

I also do not see any major increase in my filter pressure, so like you, I clean the cartridges every 6 months. All I have ever done is to hose them off with water. They are no longer white, but they seem to work just as well as when they were new and white. They are currently over 7 years old.

I personally would not use Simple Green but have no reason other than I don't want my pool to smell like Simple Green. Not even sure that would happen.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks @Jimrahbe - I hadn’t considered the potential of the smell of simple green. I do like the smell, but not for the pool. I’ll probably just stick with a thorough hose down.

A cleaning solution of trisodium phosphate will work better than SimpleGreen. SG is nothing more than a plant-based surfactant and fragrance. It’s an organic cleaner that chlorine will oxidize and possibly turn into combined chlorine compounds. So it’s really not good.
