Simple and restrictive automation controls for AirBnB rental home with Pentair Easytouch.

I would like to have some controls available to guests at a short term rental property. I use the the Pentair Screenlogic app on my phone currently for my own access. I don't know if there is a way that I can share that app with two profiles giving me total control over the pool and settings and guest limited control. What can I have at the house that will let guests turn on and adjust the spa and waterfall but not leave it on too long or set it too high? Thanks for the advice!!!

K,
Welcome to TFP... A great place to find the answers to all our your pool control questions, even if you are ashamed of the city you live in.. :shark:

Sorry to say, I can't think of anything that you can do with ScreenLogic where the renter would not have the same access as you to the programs and circuits.

One thing you could do, I guess, is provide a Pentair remote and not program all the buttons.. But that still would not allow you to control the limits..

You could also set the egg-timer so that say the spa could only run for x hours at a time... ???

Let's see if some of our other users have some better ideas...

Thanks,

Jim R.

There's not a lot of protection available. Anyone who can press the Menu button on an EasyTouch controller can wipe out your programming and cause all kinds of mischief. There's a password feature, but it appears to lock out all functions, not just changes to settings. (I haven't tried it, but that's what the manual implies.)

All you can really do is lock up the outdoor control panel and not provide any remote controllers. Put everything on schedules you think will work for your guests.

Whne I rent a place with a pool or spa I expect to be able to use it when I want. If the pool or spa is only available at certain times I expect that to be fully disclosed before the rental not when arriving at tne place.

I have been in some places that charge $30-50 per day for energy use if you want to heat the pool.

I understand the owners dilemma. I try and be a reasonable renter for energy use. I think the owner has to actively monitor their rental pool and spa situation using their remotes and intervene if a renter is abusing the property.

Maybe just put together some real clear instructions on what people can and cannot do, and a very big warning in the instructions, and by the pool equipment that if any programming is changed there will be a $100 charge to their deposit, and make sure you check it after each stay.

Is it common for Airbnb properties to have this kind of spa/pool setup? From my experience, not really, so hopefully you are able to charge more for the property to make dealing with it worthwhile. Or, most properties charge a one-time "cleaning fee", perhaps increase that amount to cover the time and cost of going over the pool systems after each guest.

I have rented quite a few properties in places like Palm Springs that have pools and spas. It is a good selling feature for those who enjoy it.

At the same time it is a competitive market and having high fees and penalties can make the property not as attractive.

The best solution might be a spa-side remote combined with a lock on the main control panel. Of course, this is wired hardware and not so easy to add after construction. Then again, it doesn't strictly have to be mounted spa-side. It could be mounted to the outside of the main panel or somewhere near it.
