Sick of Algae!

FC chlorine this morning was 21, much higher than I thought. I just had to add 101 oz. of LC. I backwashed too as it was just a little high on the pressure. I brushed it and will check it again around lunch. It's looking better, less algae at the bottom now. In the instruction for SLAM, it says vacuum once a day. Would this be with a robot or with a hose and attachment on a pole and vacuum to waste?

You have a lot of new water, so not much algae. You got this. You can use a robot, you can vacuum to filter, you can vacuum to waste. If you filter, backwash.

SLAM coming right along. Just put my 3rd batch of LC in the pool for today. FC was down to 15.5, which is likely due to the sun. It's 96 degrees, sunny and hot. I almost let the 6% chlorine in the pool math app cause me to put too much LC in. I forgot to change it to 10% and I caught myself just in time. I put 2 gal, 1 qt. in rather than 3.8 gallons. I wish there was a way to change that default. I have looked in the settings and anywhere else that might change that default and can't find anything to change the chlorine percentage. However, pool is looking better. There is less algae at the bottom and I'm seeing white specs on top of the water. I'm assuming that is dead algae?

Yes, I’m only testing FC using a constant CYA of 60 and target FC of 24. From what I’m understanding , basically the SLAM process requires a level of FC high enough and long enough to eradicate the algae. Once the algae is gone, then maintain balanced levels. I guess I really didn’t understand that in the beginning. I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed so it takes me a little longer than normal people 😀

I've been gone 6 days and just got home from Tybee Island to upstate SC. Did a good brush while the "best" robot I got vacuumed. Never have seen this green of a backwash, scary. Went from 18 FF to 3 basically in those 6 days it appears. I try and keep it at 5ish to maybe 6 pending my cya.
Cya has been my struggle using the limited options here as it's granular stabilizer and Home Depot seems the only one. Last fall I had to do a slam since Amazon and Leslie pool supplies about killed me in $ and the ultimate bad results before I wanted to shock and cover and close the pool come October without being able to really get in it as well. Actually built a landing on the other side in the winter to be able to brush the parts I can't get to from the half round deck..at the moment I got floating stairs too since I was scrubbing them outside and then the wife on the phone didn't pay attention and away they went. 😂😂💯

Oh man! You should weigh those things down! By FF do you mean FC?

Oops yes. FC. Long week. And normally they are weighed down by 2 jugs of old chlorine and rope but I scrubbed down for algae when I got I got back as well. The robot can't get behind there and the wall and floor gets neglected.

Great.

Do this:
Overview page. Click FC.
Change target level to something higher than current level.
Select liquid chlorine
Enter 10%
Click Done in upper right of keypad.
Click "<Home" in the upper left of the screen.
You should be on overview.
Click FC again.
Your Chlorine % should default to 10.

Did a OCLT last night. Beginning FC was 25 and this morning before sunrise it was 23. I can still see algae in the bottom this morning a a few water bugs swimming around. On may way to get more chlorine, I’ve used 14 gallons so far of 10%. I have about 1.5 gallons left so I need to stock up.

Any pool stores with the 12.5% around your area? I finally found some but breaking it down to 10% from Walmart it was more per ounce as of today. Even ace hardware and the CDS brand at 10% was cheaper. Would love to find a bigger size like 3-5 gallons and then take out of it weekly. I roughly use 20-25 ounces per day to hit my target FC

We have a Pinch a Penny pool store that sells 2.5 gallons of 10.5% but they tell me it’s likely 12 or higher. They just guarantee 10.5%. It’s $5.67/gallon with sales tax. It’s the best deal. I went by a got 2.5 gallons plus another 6 gallons from Wal mart.

Pool is getting much clearer. I just did a brushing and there’s very little powdery algae at the bottom now. And it’s brown which may be a good sign.

I followed these steps and the only thing different is I have back button instead of home at top left. It still defaults to 6%

I don't have a back button anymore just done or say Matrix with a left arrow. But I did notice it's odd on Poolstored's post for Fc now I have a Cya field below it where on the overview they each alresdy have their own field/page.
