Do I need to regularly shock pool if everything looks clear and chlorine levels are high enough? I know i can use chlorine-free oxidizing shock but is it really needed every 1-2 weeks if pool looks perfectly clean?

4100 gallon in-ground pebble tec salt pool. brand new pool just opened in January.

I attached test results from today. Already dropped PH to 7.2 and adding about 17lbs of salt tomorrow to get closer to 3200ppm.

Welcome to TFP.

TFP Pool Care Methods do not include regular shocking of any pool. I suggest you get familiar with our methods in ...

P,

I have three saltwater pools that are all at least 10 years old.. In all that time I have never added a single bag of pool store "shock"... !!

If you keep your FC in balance with your CYA, you will never, ever need to routinely add shock to your pool.

We NEVER recommend that you go to the pool store to have your water tested. Their job is to separate you from your money, not make keep your pool clear and sanitized. :(

To give you just one example...

With a CYA of 100 your FC target should be 7 to 13 ppm.. And they are telling you that your 6 ppm is too high!!! What a load of Bull Feathers.. If anything, your FC is a little on the low end.

Get your own test kit and start taking care of your own pool.. No one care more about your pool than you do.

Thanks,

Jim R.
