Ugh. Above ground .30ft wide, 4ft deep . 22,000 gallons. Hayward sand vari-flo and blue wave/ tidal wave roaring river pump (pump new mid last year but did fine Abd seems to be filtering )live in Tennessee .

Why is my pool milky on the bottom
Half?!?! My husband used some shock packets weeks ago but I stopped all
That nonsense and went to liquid chlorine over a week ago. The milky white bottom will not clear and I got my cya(20-30), ph(7.2) alk( 70) to the right places before I started slamming . Pump running 24/7. Backwashing 1-2 times daily. Keeping chlorine up to 12 per the tfp app for almost 6 days. Brushing daily. Have vacuumed but still haven’t seen the bottom so that’s hard . Adding DE . Use the taylor test kit- k-2006. Been doing tfp for about 3-4 seasons and this has never happened . Haven’t cleaned or changed/checked sand in maybe 2-3 seasons. That possibly an issue ? Stop slamming and recheck everything ?!? Loses about 1-3 fc per night , cc is .5. Too half is clear but bottom just stays Milky. It’s never seemed like this , usually I can see progress , but day after day it stays the exact same. So so frustrated

What am I missing ?!?!

Welcome to TFP.

You are missing patience.

6 days is not long for the SLAM Process. It can take 2 or 3 weeks or more. Maintain your FC level and keep your CYA between 30-40.

Ive also pulled ladders and scrubbed and sprayed with hose .
Very good. Not sure if you did this as well, but some members have gone as far as to separate each step and also inject chlorine into the handles/rails. A turkey baster can be helpful for that.

Aside from that, do your best to maintain the SLAM Process and the chlorine will eventually take care of the algae.

Are you waiting until psi rises 25% over clean pressure before backwashing?
Sand filters better when its a little bit dirty.

Aside from that try taking a pic every day in the same place at the same time with something like a pool pole in the water for reference, it can help you realize the clarity gains that are hard to see in person when you just look out & still see a cloudy pool.

Ok - I didn’t realize too much backwashing was not helpful. It usually stays at about 10%
