We have an Intex Krystal Clear Sand Filter 2800 GPH Pump Flow Rate. It filters just fine but when vacuuming the secondary filter runs out of water and suction is lost almost immediately and it sounds as if the pump is straining. Have checked to see if the hose is plugged and no plugs. Only happens when vacuuming. Cannot figure out what is going on.

Do you prime the vacuum line before hooking it up? Try submersing the hose to get any air out of it first before hooking it up if you arent doing so first.
Yes, sure do. Even thought there might be a blockage in a hose so disconnected each one and tested. Only happens when I vacuum. Driving me crazy trying to figure it out.
This is a shot in the dark, but if you have the Intex plunger valves, they do have a small grey nipple behind the valve and before the collar, with rubber on top, that will suck air when trying to vacuum. We just cover ours with electrical or duct tape
