I've had a couple years of relatively trouble free pool (see what I did there?). Over the "winter" (as much as we have in So Cal), I tested with my trusty TFT-100 kit, I added chemicals and ran the pump once a day. I thought I would make it to summer with no problems. Then last week? I take off the cover and... water is foul, green, stinky. It's a swamp. Turns out my pump internals broke and dumped ALL of their sand in my pool. For extra added atmosphere, the pool smelled like bad shrimp
. It was awful.
I cleaned out MOST of the sand and drained the pool. I used a sump pump and a shop vac to clean the last 1/2" of water. I am about to sweep the rest of the pool and take up all the dry debris with the shop vac. But, there is some slight green on the lower parts of the vinyl lining (where the water sat as it was draining). I need to clean this. On the outside of the liner and above the water line I use Star Brite Ultimate Vinyl Clean (it takes off tough bird and flower stains). The product says that the cleaner CAN be a skin and eye irritant. So, I was thinking, I could still use this and then clean it off with clean water so that not much residue was remaining. Then, when I later fill the pool with its 40,000 pounds/5,000 gallons of water, the residue would be diluted to the point of not being an irritant anymore. But, am I right? It's Saturday and it's cool here so I am doing the cleaning today (it will be in the 90s in a couple days). So, the company isn't open to ask them. Anyone have any ideas if it's safe to use this? If not, is there an organic/safe method for cleaning the slight green that is there? FWIW, the chemicals are 2-butoxyethinol, tetrasodium edta and water.
