Sand in site glass

I have a brand new 22in sand filter (250lbs) with a 1 HP pump. I noticed that there is always sand swirling in the site glass when I backwash, is this normal?

Some is, but not very much. Since it's new, your sand may not be as settled as some. How new?

Can you catch some of the discharge water and see how much is in it?

Did you backwash because of a psi rise?

What does it suggest if there is alot of sand in there?

I'm guessing a little but if it really is a lot it may have been over filled.
