Sand in pool

Last season we closed the pool using only a leaf net cover....I will NEVER do that again! So, the pool was a green swamp. After balancing water I began liquid bleach. The pool turned milky white but wouldn't clear up even though the pump was running 24/7. We bought a new valve and sand to go with our new 1.5 hp pump, however when we emptied the sand the lateral pipe was totally broken off at the laterals. We replaced that and began filtering again. The pool is almost clear now but the entire time it was filtering without me being able to see, the return was sending pounds of sand into the pool. I mean LOTS of sand. Can I vacuum it? I read the sand will jam the multivalve whether vacuuming to filter AND vacuuming to waste. Can anyone direct me?

I would suspect the hairnets will catch the sand. May need to stop and check them often if you have alot of sand in the pool. The fines that would get through should not harm things.

Try it. But do not get too aggressive.

Take care.
