Starting to buy all of my supplies and get the season started with the tfp train of thought. After having an awful year last year, I’m excited to try something new. I emptied my sand filter at the end of last season because I wanted to start with a clean slate. What do you guys recommend for media? I had the glass media in there for about three seasons.

As always, thank you for the advice.

Add my vote for sand.... which has worked well for water filtration for billions of years so why mess with nature?

We've read from quite a few folks who haven't been terribly pleased with sand replacements, but they wanted a little something more. Ta-Da!! DE powder to the rescue!! A little DE powder added to the sand filter adds just enough ooomph to make that water sparkle.

If you've had a horrible year last year, what were your problems??

Most problems that folks report here end up being a chemistry problem, not a problem with filtration. Sand filters are designed to use pool filter sand. Other media types are designed to separate you from your cash......

Looking at your signature, I'm guessing these two things may play a part in your "issues"

inline chlorinator puck feeder
Nature2 Express Mineral Cartridge

You don't list one in your signature, but we base our pool care system on your personal accurate testing and only adding what the pool needs, when it needs it. To do that you need your own accurate test kit. Order a TF100 test kit.

The only other real option for a test kit is a Taylor K-2006-C. Be careful comparing prices because the K-2006 comes in sizes, designated by a letter. The basic K-2006 has .75oz bottles. You need to get the K-2006-C to get the larger bottles that you want. Even then it is a little short on the reagent & powder for the FAS/DPD test.

While entirely optional, I also have the SpeedStir and Sample Sizer. They speed testing and accuracy.
