Morning, I have a Hayward sand filer with a multivalve SP0714G11M. This is one with the spider gasket that is molded to the key. I noticed that in recirculate the filter was shooting water out of the backwash port, and that the pressure was reduced on the return side. I found that the most likely cause was the spider gasket though the filer is about 3 years old. Opened it up and looked okay but had some wear, so I ordered the entire top fixture from Inyo since I didn't want to deal with hammering out a handle and stuff. I installed it and it's still leaking from the backwash though be it less than before. I is keyed correctly on the notch and the filter itself is free of junk though I'll open and really scrub it later. By leaking I mean about 3 gallons a min flowing out the backwash. Can anyone confirm that the inside of the multivalve XL is supposed top have an angular stub that aligns with the central handle and that this isn't broken? The filter is level there is no notable debris in there and the gasket is new. Pressure is in the rated range at 18-22 PSI, any ideas other than the housing is afflicted by some kind of pool ghosts?

Thanks in advance :)IMG_4475 2.png

Not entirely sure what you are looking to for. The filter body has a multiport xl on the top. The actual gasket assembly was original with the Hayward and installed in June ish of 2022. When in the recirculate position it leaks like crazy in the filter it also leaks but less. I replaced it with pl0734 from Inyo with the same leaking behavior. IMG_0421.jpeg

I can get a better picture of any component if necessary just let me know what you’re looking for.

I suggest you talk with Inyo.

You mixed Pureline parts on top of the Hayward MPV and they do not fit together properly.

When generic replacement parts don't work, the answer is to try genuine Hayward parts.

You might want to bite the bullet and get a completely new MPV.

The Q&A on the website seems to indicate it is a direct replacement. It is almost exactly the same size and diameter, etc., when measured with a caliper. They are closed till Monday, but I’ll try them then. It occurs to me that if it’s over pressure for whatever reason, it could leak, though it’s only pulling 20 psi if the gage is accurate. The other thing I am thinking is that there was sand added when it was closed last year. Sand is being lost when being backwashed, so I am wondering if it overfilled. I’ll open it, deep clean, and take a look; it can’t hurt, but perhaps I’ll find something. The behavior is almost identical to the OEM. I included an image of the OEM; it’s still in fairly good shape or at least not damaged enough to be dumping out water like a faucet. I haven’t had issues so far, and it’s been opened about a month; this just started on Wednesday. Regardless, any suggestions are appreciated.

Yeah, it’s been operational for a few years without an issue. The leak just started. The way the unions are, it would be impossible to reinstall incorrectly. On the waste line, there is a diverter valve so I can send it down a hard pipe to the back drainage culvert or attach a fire hose to the pipe stub to get it out to the front. Just options if one location is saturated because of rain.
