Is it pretty typical for a sand filter to foul up when manual vacuuming through the filter? Granted - being an Intex sand filter and likely undersized a bit doesn't help, but seems like there's no way I can vacuum the entire bottom of my pool (and it's not that big!) without having to backwash. And the bottom is not even that dirty.
I'm gaging this mostly by the reduced suction and reduced return flow - not necessarily a 25% rise in filter pressure. But it's noticeable.
Amazon has a great deal on the Intex suction-side auto cleaner right now, but I'm a bit hesitant to get any suction side cleaner if it pretty much will foul up the filter quickly. Without vacuuming, the pump/filter go weeks if not months without needing a backwash.
